Since Everyone else is talking bout it….Really Nightline?

So…we don’t get married in one arena,…and we DON’T struggle with infertility in another. Media, will you please get your facts straight?  So, you’re either portraying us as bitter broads who are so bougie we can’t get a man, or hot and heavy Saphires who have baby after baby with no man to show for it.  And then you do your great job of showing that all our men aren’t worth a damn either so of course either way, we’ll be single.
Okay.
I can see how I might make assumptions too if I only did your shoddy method of journalism and factfinding.  News stories like these are the precise reason I left the journalism world in the first place, because if I was forced to make such ridiculously offensive and ill-lit characterizations, I would rather shoot myself in the resume`.

I would love it if you would actually seek stories that are about something other than the disparity of my race. Seriously.  You even tried to spin it as though it were a great spotlight on how beautiful our “sistah’s” were, but I’m not impressed.  Also, calling Steve Harvey a relationship guru is like calling Eddie Murphy a babymama expert.  You can’t tell me anything about how to maintain a relationship when you’re on marriage number 3.  Sorry, no dice. But I do applaud you ABC for trying to assist a black man in his book sales…guess you aren’t all bad, huh?

Anyway, I was miffed by this segment not only for its negativity but for its lack of balance.  It did nothing to show full profiles of these women for me.  Who’s to say that these women aren’t stark raving mad when they are in relationships?  I did appreciate that Steve called them out on having too high standards in some cases.

I don’t know what will get mainstream media to begin paying attention to more realistic scenarios, because I’m pretty sure it isn’t just BLACK women who aren’t getting married as frequently.
