What do you do when the person holding you back, is YOU?
Me and myself have argued something terrible for a while now.
See, I look at myself and I get so frustrated at all my little hangups. I like certain foods, (adult picky eaters, anyone?). I like my evenings to go a certain way for me to be comfortable. I like what I like.
But the problem with liking what you like, is that it dosen’t always equal getting what you want or need. I’m absolutely positive that being a picky eater all my life is at least partly responsible for my weight. There are skinny people with PCOS so I can’t justify blaming it all the time. I don’t like milk or cheese, and certain textures of food make me gag. That alone leaves me with a few vitamin deficiencies, but as with most picky eaters, what we DO tend to eat are things that are most familiar to us or that fit our sensory palates. Because of this, most of us are malnourished but generally overweight.
And where does that fit in infertility land?
You guessed it! It makes ONE more hurdle I have to clear.
I don’t know what your hurdles are. You could be a picky eater like me. Or perhaps you like to keep putting off that trip to the RE. Maybe you’re the type who keeps telling yourself that you’ll start the adoption process next year, when you get a little bit more saved up. Whatever the case, I can guarantee that you and I both, even with our different hangups, will be in this same predicament next year. Feeling ashamed that we procrastinated ourselves right out of what we wanted.
One thing that has been my philosophy about many other areas throughout the years, and one that my elders have always agreed with me on, is this:
When you get tired of something. And I mean, REALLY tired. You will move heaven and earth to get it out of your way.
That even includes obstacles that you are setting for yourself.
When you get really tired of holding yourself back, you will have no choice but to change.
I wish you that courage and strength.
As I chug down my gallon of water for the day.
