The Only Way It is Going to Work

So…in my other life I am a librarian.
Librarians fight against a theory called self-censorship.  This is the practice where librarians choose to not purchase or shelve materials that they feel could potentially cause for some challenges by patrons.  For instance, some librarians will deliberately not purchase an award-winning book, because it has profanity in it that some patrons could come complaining about, thereby stopping countless readers from acquiring reading material that is good, based on their own FEAR of being challenged or questioned.

The Library community has also been seriously examining the effects and consequences of the digital era on public-persona and privacy.  It is obvious that in the age of status message conduits for conversation and profile pandering, the ability to be transparent is a daunting and frightening idea.  There is always teh fear that someone will see your “profile” and draw conclusions, or question the music choices on your Myspace that cause them to in turn question YOU as a person.

To be a vocal person in a world where perception is reality, is a hard feat. And I am a vocal person.

There are so many things to be and do in this world.
There is much sadness and disparity.
There is mass confusion and many personal battles to which we as people have a hard time conveying to ourselves, let alone any others…
So we “talk to the stratosphere”.
We send out blogs and statuses, ponderings and affirmations, not necessarily to anyone in particular, but to simply SAY IT.

And for it to work as the therapy it has no doubt grown to be, it has to be completely and utterly as honest as can be achieved.

  • There will be times that this blog will take a turn to the completely positive and hopeful, full of faith and all the things I’ve learned as a believer in God.
  • There will be other times where the Librarian in me will propel me into an educator’s frenzy where I will compile statistics and studies that will allow me to find some form of understanding in this crazy subject.
  • More often than naught, I will ramble inconsolably for the same reason.
  • And finally, there will be times when the thoughts I’m thinking will be negative, crass, or conflicting with my beliefs, and yes, those too will find their way into my cyber pages.

I implore you, if anything I say offends, disturbs or upsets you, please exit stage left.  Because at the end of the day, it isn’t about you.  It is about my fight, my thoughts, my journey, and how my complete transparency can be used to help others who have encountered similar pain and discouragement.  It is absolutely imperative that I remain vigilant in my dedication to being as honest and dare I say it, REAL, as I can possibly be. There is a seriousness to this plight that no amount of self-censorship should be able to squelch.

So, that being said,
back to the good fight.
