HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!

YAY US!
Well…Yay ME! LOL
So, I wanted to get over here and chat it up about our birthday on the actual blogaversary, which was last Thursday, but Blogger was being a hater.  Sorry about that.
However, I didn’t want this week to pass without me shouting about my baby turning 1.
So, I got some cupcakes for my cutie patootie logo girl and I’ve done some sprucing up of our links and official website.
I did want to say that this blog has been one of the most therapeutic and healing things I’ve had since starting down infertility lane.  The research and passion that I’ve put into it is so often rewarded just in finding a way for my own coping and empowerment.  I hope that through my rantings and ravings, you’ve had some great things to take away as well.
A lot has happened over a year…here’s a few pieces of Eggshell trivia:

1. Our name has changed once but our design has changed a whopping TEN times.  SmileyYes, I’ve been a bit neurotic.  Here’s a couple snapshots of ways it used to look….

YIKES. Some of those are…

2. We went from a hobby-ish ranting, personal blogspot…to a thriving, informative and “professional” .com blog.  YAY for taking this thing seriously enough to pay for a domain!  (I’m a bit cheap)
3. We’ve met some really great friends!  Over on the sidebar, (if you pay attention), I’ve added a widget that lists some of our closest friends.  What a welcoming and informative community IF is.  PLEASE go and check out our buddies sometime!
4. We launched our Facebook Page for people to connect and learn!  Stop by sometime, we have some pretty cool convo’s going down!  447 people (to date) have taken an interest in the goings on of African American Infertility! Smiley Matter of fact, if you want to get us a birthday present, how about sending over a buddy or two to our Facebook page?  just a suggestion..no pressure of course….Smiley

5. We have gone from a personal blog to an actual non-profit organization!  That’s right dudes and dudettes, in case you haven’t noticed the page up top…The Broken Brown Egg is now The Broken Brown Egg Inc. (NFP).

6. We have been fortunate enough to put together a launch party that will allow us the opportunity to  give proceeds to a well-known Infertility Assistance organization!  Come out and join us!  September 17, 2010!! Click the link to your right for tickets!  (Oh, and email me if you’d like to help out!)

7. We have gained over 200 followers on Twitter and participated in Project IF through Resolve and Stirrup Queens!

So basically…we’ve had a pretty awesome year.  This means a LOT to me, because personally,…not so much. LOL  So to see this little blog of mine grow into a movement that I am extremely proud of, means the world.

That being said, I have to say, as I always do…this is truly not even about me anymore.  YES, I am still in this fight.  Yes, I am still moving towards my own dreams and goals.  BUT, at the end of the day, when I’m sitting in my pajamas, scouring the web with owl-eyes and drinking ginger ale, I’m not even thinking about me.  I’m thinking about the woman who has no idea where to get information from, and the couple who are arguing more and more about money because of the fertility treatments that haven’t worked, and the newlyweds who’ve just finished their first visit to the RE. I think about so many other people and their fight because it truly is about ALL of us.

I’m a person who believes that all things are relative.  I believe that if we focus on family and how to create strong ones, we can eliminate some of the other ills and social travesties, and that once we do that…we can reverse the cycle to which many Americans feel is just “the way things are”.  I believe in family, and because of that belief, I also believe in the importance of people being informed and capable of creating the families they choose.  I believe that information is the key to unlock ANY door and to make any decision.
I believe these things with my whole heart.

Some days, I’ll be extremely prayerful and vigilant about faith.  Others, I’ll be angry, hurt, sad and confused.  Most days I’m just an information junkie.  And my voice will change as its written from time to time.  But know this, if nothing else.  I will always be honest with you.  I will always be searching for information for you.  I will always be here for you.

So, my wish today as I blow out The Egg’s birthday candles is that I can continue to be the support and information resource I’ve tried to become, and that you’ll be here with me for the adventure.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the person(s) who will be helped by this movement, I thank you so much for supporting The Broken Brown Egg, and ME in the process.
Here, have a cupcake,

What’s your wish?

In honor or The Egg’s birthday, we are having a comment party!  Leave a comment on ANY post,(trust me, I’ll get it no matter how old the post), and I will visit your space on the web and do the same!

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BBE! I am so proud of the journey that you have been on and the light that you are bringing to this subject matter.

  2. Happy Birthday beautiful lady:) I love your new logo & blog design…very nice! The movement you've created is truly inspiring & your blog post was so beautifully written. Hope this next year brings both you & The Broken Brown Egg even more success & happiness:)

  3. Ohhh, I love cupcakes, especially with rainbow sprinkles! What a way to celebrate your Blogoversary. I am visiting from LFCA and agree that blogging has been so incredible therapeutic. I really love that you have taken it to the next level and formed a NFP. I am thinking a lot about how I can focus some of my energy on political advocacy. Can you imagine how different it would be if every couple had insurance coverage so that they could get the treatment they need. Someday, right? Visiting your blog is quite inspiring, I'll be back for sure 🙂

Congratulations on being so awesome! Keep it up!
